The Green Africa Initiatives for Climate Adaptation and Restoration (GAICAR)

Focused on enhancing public utilities such as water, electricity, and sanitation services, PUDMaP aims to improve infrastructure, promote efficient management, and ensure equitable access for economic and social development.
GAICAR unites policymakers, multinational corporations, development organizations, local actors, and vulnerable communities in implementing actionable strategies to combat environmental degradation, restore ecosystems, and promote sustainable livelihoods while addressing the complex impacts of climate change. The initiative seeks to mitigate the macroeconomic consequences of environmental degradation in Africa, and safeguard public health by strengthening legislative and regulatory capacities for the design, enforcement and compliance of environmental laws, championing large-scale reforestation efforts, and fostering sustainable alternative livelihoods. GAICAR addresses the challenge of the evolving and weaker environmental regulatory contexts across Africa by empowering African institutional actors on country led climate diplomacy and innovative private sector led loss and damage interventions to provide critical support for communities disproportionately affected by corporate activities or climate-related events. As a convener, catalyst, collaborator, and coordinator in climate and environmental stewardship, GAICAR empowers the private sector, development finance institutions, and governments to develop and implement innovative climate finance mechanisms. GAICAR is at the forefront of driving long-term, scalable, and equitable solutions for climate resilience and environmental restoration across Africa and beyond.
